Case Study: Takapuna Beach Cup

Our television production for Sky Sports required the need to track teams on a course at a specific time and match it with their actual speed.

Our GPS units track canoe speeds and report real-time to the event website. This enables shore-bound spectators to watch the race as it unfolds and it enabled our production team to have accurate information for visual graphic production.

Globally Tracking Sports: Ignite GPS
Everyone knows that GPS allows us to locate where, when and how fast a person with a GPS device is travelling. Ignite Studios took this simple GPS functionality combined it with GPRS (mobile phone technology) and created sports tracking technology. By plotting GPS locations over time and reporting on them in specific ways (eg average speed) we create a variety of statistics for any sports racing event.

Cycling
Kayaking
Paddling

Our technology can give spectators and coaches an instant update of where their favourite athlete or team is on the course and how they are doing.

This a cost-efficient technology that can be used in sports events.

The Handheld device
These nifty GPS trackers, called 'pTracs' are what we rent to event managers/directors. The pTrac also doubles as a phone, so you can call emergency services and they will be able to find you very quickly.

We are currently investigating other mobile-phone/GPS handsets as they are released by manufacturers.
